Baby Dedication
1 Samuel 1:1-1
The act of dedicating children finds its basis in God's Word when Joseph and Mary brought Jesus into the Temple at His infancy. That means this is a sacred and solemn act of worship. The dedication of these children does not mean they are guaranteed salvation through Christ. That is a personal commitment and God will deal with them when they reach the age of accountability.
Parents, the dedication of your children is your public expression that your child is a gift from God and that it is your desire to raise your child in the fear and instruction of the Lord.
I'm sure you know this, but let me remind you that the child you hold is the greatest earthly gift you will ever possess. Before the thought of your child entered your mind, the Lord had already determined that you would be the parents. This means you have a responsibility to raise your child according to His precepts. As you do this, you will provide your child with wisdom, knowledge, and practical advice for every avenue of life. You will also prepare them to stand before that fearful Judgment Seat where all men will appear.
But teaching your children God's Word is not enough. The Bible calls you to model the Christian life too. As you teach your child practical and spiritual lessons, let God's Word make its full claims on you too. Exemplify the way to live, love, and serve.
(Pastoral Charge) Parents, you stand before God and this holy assembly to dedicate your child unto the Lord and His purposes. Do you verbally pledge to raise your child according to God's ways and will as revealed in the written Word of God? If so, would you say, "We do."
Now let us invoke the prayer of dedication.
Prayer of Dedication
Heavenly Father, as the parents of Samuel and Jesus dedicated their children to You, we solemnly dedicate these children unto Your glory too. Thank You for the gift of life and Your unfettered grace that rests upon these infants created in Your image. May You provide them with protection from harm and evil, strength for their weaknesses, and wisdom for life's mysteries. Make Yourself known to them at an early age and draw them to the Cross to accept You as Savior. Give them a willing heart to accept their place of service in Your kingdom and church. Bless these parents as they strive to make Your eternal and unchanging Word the focal point of life and the standard for living. We dedicate these children to You in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In the Name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
